This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information in connection with culbertsonatlaw.com and any pages we operate (the “Site”).

Scope

This Policy applies to information collected through the Site, by phone or email, and through contact forms or other online tools we control. It does not apply to third-party sites or services we don’t control. If we link to another site, their policy governs.

Not legal advice & no attorney–client relationship (important)

Contacting us through the Site, email, phone, or social media does not create an attorney–client relationship. Do not send confidential or sensitive information until we confirm representation in writing. If you become our client, information we receive in that capacity will be handled per our professional obligations and engagement agreement.

Information we collect

1) Information you provide

  • Contact details (name, phone, email, city/state)
  • Matter details you choose to share via intake or contact forms
  • Files you upload (documents, images)
  • Communications (emails, call/voicemail content and metadata)

2) Information collected automatically

  • Usage data (pages viewed, links clicked, timestamps, referring URLs)
  • Device/technical data (IP address, browser type, operating system, screen size)
  • Cookies and similar technologies used for basic site functionality, performance/analytics, and to remember preferences
  • Embedded content (for example, a Google Maps location embed) may allow that provider to collect standard technical data per its own policy
  • Security/anti-spam tools (for example, form protection services) may process IP and usage data to detect abuse

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information via the Site unless you voluntarily submit it.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • Respond to inquiries, schedule consultations, and provide requested information
  • Operate, secure, and improve the Site (including analytics and debugging)
  • Manage business operations (recordkeeping, compliance, and audits)
  • Communicate about appointments, updates, or changes to this Policy or our Site
  • Comply with law, court orders, or ethical obligations

Legal bases (for visitors where required)

Where applicable, we rely on legitimate interests (running and improving our Site; responding to inquiries), consent (where you’ve given it), and/or compliance with legal obligations.

How we share information

We may share information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Site and our business (hosting, email, form/intake tools, security/anti-spam, analytics). They may only use information to provide services to us.
  • Professional advisers (e.g., IT/security, accountants) under confidentiality obligations.
  • Law enforcement or regulators when required by law or to protect our rights or clients.
  • With your direction or consent, including referrals or co-counsel arrangements.

We do not sell personal information. If we ever engage in cross-context behavioral advertising (as defined by certain state laws), we will provide the required notice and a way to opt out.

Cookies & similar technologies

  • What they are: Small files stored on your device to keep the Site working, measure performance, and remember preferences.
  • Your choices: You can adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies. Doing so may affect Site functionality. Some third-party tools provide their own opt-outs.

Retention

We keep information only as long as necessary for the purposes described above, to comply with legal/ethical obligations, and to resolve disputes. Retention periods vary by record type.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to a small law practice website. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Please do not send sensitive information until we establish an attorney–client relationship and provide secure transmission options.

Your privacy rights

Depending on your state (for example, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia), you may have rights to:

  • Know/Access the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete personal information (subject to legal exceptions)
  • Opt out of certain data uses (e.g., targeted advertising or profiling, where applicable)
